The African Mesob roasts African Green Beans daily - so our customers will experience very fresh African coffee. Our special house blend is a combination of Ethiopian and other African single origin blends and it has a smooth taste with lingering after tones. We can offer take-away coffee and have insulated mugs for only $14.95 including the first coffee free and subsequent coffees $1 off. The African Mesob Café Restaurant offers a unique dining experience. A Mesob is a hand woven dome shaped basket, around which Ethiopians sit to share a meal. In both Greek and Italian languages the word “meso/mesos” means in the “middle”. Our entrance is on the Plateia Hellas, in the middle of multicultural Northbridge and we are proud to share the cultures of the African continent with our customers. The African Mesob has a range of African dishes from West, North, Central and East Africa. It is impossible to do justice to all 57 African countries but we hope that our menu gives our customers a sample of exotic African cuisine. Our menu will evolve over time as we explore the amazing diversity of African cuisine. African Mesob Café Restaurant Objectives: To provide a uniquely Ethiopian & African dining experience combined with good quality service, ie African hospitality with Australian high standard of service. To develop and maintain a reputation for bringing together Aussies and Africans to share the “African experience” in Perth. To create a feeling of “belonging” to the Africans who reside in Perth. To raise awareness of the positive aspects of African culture amongst Australians. To provide hospitality training and employment opportunities for Africans. Our Staff Our Staff are people from many different African countries. This includes Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Liberia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and others. Our staff are the heart and soul of the African Mesob Café Restaurant. The African Mesob staff are all African Ambassadors, representing not only the business but also Africa!! We respect and celebrate the diversity of all staff, knowing that each person shares their own cultural background with all members of our team. ETHIOPIAN MAINS We specialise in Ethiopian cuisine – offering a range of spicy meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes served in traditional mesobs or table seating. Ethiopian combinations give you a chance to experience a number of different dishes in one serving. Diners prepare for a meal by washing their hands in warm running water at their mesob or table. Though the basic ingredient in Ethiopian cooking is Berbere, a red hot chilli pepper, Ethiopian foods use a variety of herbs and spices including ginger, coriander, cumin, clove, fenugreek, mustard, dill, red pepper, cardamon and turmeric. Flavours emerge as you eat and though some dishes can be hot this is balanced by the inclusion of a number of flavours in the one dish. All combinations are served with Injera. Our injera is freshly made from fermented sorghum flour. Injera is used in place of a knife & fork and is held in your right hand to scoop up the “Wot”. Single combinations are served on plates. Two or more people are served in mesobs, which can be enjoyed on a table or in floor mesobs. Join us for a unique dining experience! Simon & Julie Teshome |
